I've often teetered on the subject of rap and the word "nigga". As a black person who also enjoys rap on a daily basis, while the song's playing and while I'm enjoying it I'm not thinking of the cultural consequences of readily spewing this word. But it only seems to matter when a non-black individual says it. Also as a black person, the first protest out of my mouth is "You can't say that because it's disrespectful to me and my people." -- which is VERY true. However, isn't me saying it just as disrespectful? It should be. Now I say all this and I can't imagine a world of Hip-Hop without the word in it, but that's only because that's what we're all used to. Maybe, as you said, they can make something else cool outside of the typical negative subjects?
